Passivhaus, or passive house, is a construction standard that since its birth in Germany three decades ago has been spreading thanks to its capacity to reduce energy consumption and generate comfort. In Spain this standard is still a minority, but more and more offices are opting for it.

Significant energy savings are becoming an important element. And no less important is the question of health with air purification systems or external noise insulation. A passive building can be developed perfectly well with traditional architecture and an industrialised building may not be passive. But the challenge is that the choice for industrialisation allows us to comply with Passivhaus certification when we erect the structure literally in four days.

The challenge is to get to a 100% self-sufficient house or building. With solar panels and some additional elements it would be possible to achieve 100% without any problem and thus reach the European target for 2050 for total decarbonisation. Is Passivhaus industrialisation already a reality?
